The impact of the use of abacus in learning to count at SDN Mambulu Barat 4 Tambarang District, Sampang Regency, East Java

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the positive impact of abacus usage in arithmetic learning at SDN Mambulu Barat 4, Tambelangan District, Sampang Regency, East Java. An experimental method was employed in this study, with one class group as the experimental subjects. Students received abacus usage training in arithmetic learning for several months.

The research findings indicate that the usage of abacus significantly enhances students' arithmetic abilities. Statistical tests reveal a significant difference between the group using abacus and the control group not using abacus. Students employing abacus experience a substantial improvement in their understanding of basic mathematical concepts, rapid arithmetic skills, and confidence levels in solving mathematical problems.

These findings support the idea that abacus usage can be an effective tool in enhancing arithmetic learning at the elementary school level. The implications of this research underscore the necessity of considering abacus usage as part of a more effective mathematical learning strategy in elementary schools.
