This study examines the poetic language in the collection of the Iraqi poet Ṣāliḥ al-Jaʿfarī, considering it the primary tool for shaping meaning and constructing the artistic aesthetics of the poetic text. The research is based on the premise that poetic language is not merely a medium of communication, but a language of creation and creativity, achieved through the skillful use of vocabulary and sentence structure. The study adopts two analytical levels: the level of the word and the level of the sentence. At the lexical level, the research identifies the most prominent linguistic fields employed by al-Jaʿfarī, particularly religious vocabulary influenced by the Najafi environment and Qurʾanic heritage, classical lexical and heritage-based expressions, and wine-related imagery that sometimes transcends its literal sense to assume symbolic and Sufi connotations. It also examines the phenomenon of synonymy and its psychological dimensions connected to the poet’s human experience, especially his loss of sight. At the syntactic level, the study analyzes salient structural devices such as interrogation, vocative forms, commands and prohibitions, and the use of connective particles, demonstrating their role in textual cohesion and in conveying emotional intensity. The study concludes that al-Jaʿfarī’s language is characterized by semantic richness and expressive flexibility, contributing to the intensification of the poetic experience and the highlighting of its human and aesthetic dimensions. This renders his poetry a significant model of the interaction between heritage and modernity in contemporary Iraqi poetry
