Influence of Abacus Learning on the Numeracy Skills of Students at SDN Dalpenang 1, Sampang, East Java

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the influence of abacus learning on the numeracy skills of students at SDN Dalpenang 1, Sampang District, Sampang Regency. The research employs an experimental approach with one group of students as the experimental subjects. Over the course of several months, students receive abacus learning training.

The results of the study demonstrate that the use of abacus significantly enhances students' numeracy skills. Statistical tests reveal a significant difference between the group that underwent abacus learning and the control group that did not. Students who used the abacus experienced a significant improvement in their understanding of basic mathematical concepts, quick calculation abilities, and confidence levels in solving mathematical problems.

These findings support the notion that the use of the abacus can be an effective tool in improving numeracy education at the elementary school level. The implications of this research highlight the need to consider abacus learning as part of a more effective mathematics teaching strategy in elementary schools
